Nuclear Medicine And PET Division People learn from experience. Therefore, our Nuclear Medicine and Pet Division can pass on lots of valuable information. This division of ARA comprises a group of seven fellowship-trained physicians with special training and expertise in nuclear and molecular imaging. The central hub of our nuclear medicine practice is the Nuclear Medicine Department of the Baylor University Medical Center. This is a full-service department providing a high volume of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both inpatients and outpatients. All routine planar and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) studies, including nuclear cardiology studios, are performed in the department. BUMC’s Nuclear Medicine Department is also a regional referral center for a number of specialized studies not performed at most community hospitals. There is a heavy emphasis in the field of oncologic studies, but routine and specialized procedures are performed in these areas: - Orthopedic - Cardiovascular - Gastrointestinal - Genitourinary - Endocrine - Pulmonary - Neurologic - Infectious disease - Pediatric areas ARA maintains extensive radioiodine therapy services for both oncologic and non-oncologic indications and has been a leader in the use of radiolabeled antibodies for lymphoma therapy for years. This division provides supervision for ARA’s other sites of nuclear medicine imaging and therapy. These include Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie, Baylor Imaging Center at Mesquite, and Texas Oncology Diagnostic Services in the Collins building of BUMC. The Division is considered one of the finest PET and PET/CT practices in the country and its physicians are nationally recognized in this field. The North Texas Clinical PET Institute, housed in the Collins building of the Sammons Cancer Center at BUMC, contains a state-of-the-art PET/CT scanner and images over 2200 patients per year. Images from several other PET/CT centers in the Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston areas, and 13 other locations, are sent via network to ARA’s PET electronic reading room. With more than 12,000 PET and PET/CT cases that pass through ARA each year, we better know our business. And we do. The Nuclear Medicine and PET Division provides a full slate of educational opportunities for its residents and fellows, and our members regularly attend the numerous sub-specialty tumor conferences at BUMC. Representatives from our division are routinely included on the faculties of local, regional, and national meetings, and sit on various committees of national societies, as well as the editorial boards of several major journals. The Division participates in a number of research protocols involving diagnostic and therapeutic uses of radionuclides. ARA. Expand your vision. |
