The Nuclear Medicine and PET division of ARA comprises a group of seven Fellowship-trained physicians. The central hub of our nuclear medicine practice is the Nuclear Medicine department of the Baylor University Medical Center, a full-service department that provides a high volume of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both inpatients and outpatients. The department regularly performs nuclear medicine imaging such as all routine planar and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) studies, including nuclear cardiology studies.

BUMC’s Nuclear Medicine department is also a regional referral center for a number of specialized studies not performed at most community hospitals. This division provides supervision for ARA’s other sites of nuclear medicine imaging and therapy, including Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie, Baylor Imaging Center at Mesquite, and Texas Oncology Diagnostic Services in the Collins building of BUMC.

Nuclear Medicine Imaging from ARA

With a heavy emphasis on oncologic studies, other routine and specialized procedures are also performed in these areas:

  • Orthopedic
  • Pulmonary
  • Cardiovascular
  • Neurologic
  • Gastrointestinal
  • Infectious disease
  • Genitourinary
  • Pediatric areas
  • Endocrine

Sharing Knowledge, Leading Innovation - The ARA Difference

Because ARA staff have their fingers on the academic pulse of nuclear medicine, including nuclear medicine imaging and PET scans, they are able to stay at the forefront of technological and therapeutic developments in the field.

PIONEERING

For example, ARA maintains extensive radioiodine therapy services for both oncologic and non-oncologic indications and has been a leader in the use of radiolabeled antibodies for lymphoma therapy for years.

HIGHLY-REGARDED

Our nuclear medicine division is considered one of the finest PET and PET/CT practices in the country, with nationally recognized physicians interpreting more than 18,000 PET and PET/CT cases per year.

ADVANCED

The North Texas Clinical PET Institute, housed the Sammons Cancer Center in Dallas, pioneered the clinical application of PET and stays on the cutting edge of this critical diagnostic modality.

Academic Focus in Nuclear Medicine/PET

Our Nuclear Medicine and PET division provides educational opportunities for its Residents and Fellows. Representatives from our division are included on the faculties of local, regional, and national groups, and sit on various committees of national societies, as well as the editorial boards of major journals.
